Buckner International is seeking an Independent Contractor - Contracts Attorney responsible for the creation, review, editing, and negotiation of a wide range of contractual agreements for Buckner International and its subsidiary and affiliate organizations. In this capacity, you will ensure all terms align with legal standards, that legal risks are identified and mitigated, and the best interest of the organization is represented.
What you'll do:
- Draft, review, amend, and negotiate contractual agreements may include, but are not limited to, vendor and service agreements, clinical service and provider agreements, school affiliation agreements, memorandum of understanding, non-disclosure agreements, business associate agreements, financial
services and commercial business agreements, state governmental entity agreements. - Provide legal advice on contract provision terms and interpretation of contractual obligations.
- Identify and mitigate legal risks within contractual agreements.
- Communicate and collaborate with internal clients to gather necessary information for contract development, clarity, or negotiation.
- Conduct legal research to support contract negotiations and development of contract provisions, utilizing provided electronic access to legal research tools and databases.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements that impact contractual agreements related to the jurisdiction and the social services and retirement industries in which Buckner operates.
- Utilize and become proficient with the organization’s contracts management electronic system to manage contracts workflow throughout the contract life cycle.
- Maintain and periodically update the department’s contracts guidebook on key preferred contract provisions by type and specific provision.
What we’re looking for:
- A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Contracts attorney. Must maintain current professional license as applicable, including completion of all required continuing education hours each calendar year as required.
- A self-motivated, multi-tasker with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, to manage multiple contracts simultaneously.
- A strong work ethic and meticulous detailed approach to reviewing documents.
- Effective communications skills, including proficient ability to speak, read and write English. Ability to speak clearly and make self-understood effectively in face-to-face and virtual interactions. Requires the ability to hear and receive verbal instructions.
- Relate positively, influentially, and collaboratively with a broad spectrum of people in a variety of multitiered relationships, settings, and in a multi-cultural environment.
- High level of proficiency to accurately and timely operate and perform computer related tasks with specific equipment and software applications, including Microsoft Office suite.
- Attendance and participation in meetings and training as required. Onsite work permitted if requested and agreed upon.
- Recognition that the organization is a faith-based organization operating with a commitment to Christian principles.
- Sufficient good health to properly discharge duties.
