Description
Abert Caraway, PLLC is seeking a full-time attorney to join its oil and gas practice. The attorney’s primary responsibility will be examining title and preparing oil and gas title opinions, including acquisition, drilling, division order, supplemental, and other related title opinions.
The attorney will also assist the firm’s clients—including operators, landowners, and other industry participants—with a variety of upstream oil and gas matters.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Examine complex mineral, leasehold, royalty, overriding royalty, and working interest title.
- Prepare acquisition, drilling, division order, supplemental, and other oil and gas title opinions.
- Analyze oil and gas leases, assignments, deeds, probate proceedings, pooling instruments, operating agreements, and other title-related documents.
- Identify and clearly explain title defects, ownership issues, and curative requirements.
- Advise operators, landowners, and other clients regarding general upstream oil and gas matters.
- Work collaboratively with the firm’s attorneys, landmen, brokers, and clients to complete projects accurately and efficiently.
This is a full-time, 100% remote position. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Texas and membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- Experience examining oil and gas title and preparing title opinions is preferred.
- Prior experience working as a landman or in a comparable oil and gas land role is also strongly preferred.
- Licensure to practice law in New Mexico is a plus.
- Careful attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex chains of title.
- Strong analytical and writing skills
- Ability to work independently while producing accurate, high-quality work.
