- Attorney - Bureau for Pueblo, Tribes, and Nations
Description
Position: Attorney – Bureau for Pueblo, Tribes, and Nations
Agency: NM Office of the State Engineer (OSE), Litigation and Adjudication Program
Location: Santa Fe, NM
The Legal Opportunity:
Ready to work at the cutting edge of tribal law and water law? The NMOSE is seeking an Attorney to join the Litigation and Adjudication Program’s Bureau of Pueblo, Tribes, and Nations (BPTN). You will work with a larger legal/technical team to represent the State of New Mexico in complex state and federal water rights adjudications, negotiate historic intergovernmental water settlements, implement existing settlements to provide water to communities, and collaborate closely with tribal leaders and the agency's Tribal Liaison. While water law and/or tribal law experience are preferred, they are not necessary if you are motivated and willing to learn.
The Santa Fe Advantage:
Practicing law in Santa Fe means working minutes away from historic Pueblos, offering an unparalleled location for immersive federal Indian law practice. Beyond the courtroom, Santa Fe provides an exceptional quality of life: a world-class arts scene, historic adobe architecture, a famous culinary culture, and an average of 283 days of sunshine per year with the Sangre de Cristo mountains and surrounding areas providing numerous outdoor recreation opportunities right in your backyard.
