- Business & Civil Litigation Associate
Description
The Firm. Knisley, PLLC is a full service, business focused, firm that provides a robust range of legal services to small to medium-sized business, their owners, as well as their family and community. We seek to provide high-value, not high priced, legal services to our clients.
Culture. High-quality work is prioritized over monitoring where you are working from. Work-life balance is critical to prevent burnout, which includes hybrid work, remote work, and regular firm vacation/work-from-home time during typical “spring break,” July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas-New Years time periods—case load permitting. Initially, in office work is necessary to get on boarded, dig into the pending caseload, but then working from home 1-3 days per work is acceptable--depending on the caseload and hearing calendars.
The Position. This is a Business & Civil Litigation Associate position. The assignments will prioritize business, commercial, construction, and general civil litigation while still providing opportunities to gain experience in a wide range of firm practice areas and types. This position is expected to serve as the second chair on any litigation that goes to trial. This position will also be the lead associate on each piece of litigation assigned. It is full time, salaried, paid monthly, with quarterly/yearly bonuses. It requires tracking and logging billable hours for client work.
Qualifications. The ideal candidate should have a high degree of attention to detail, be self-motivated and a self-starter, able to work without constant oversight, possess an equal interest in oral & written advocacy, and have an interest in working for a multidisciplinary practice. We need a law grad that is motivated to hit the ground running and gain practical experience, immediately.
Unique Aspects. You will work directly with the Firm’s founder and receive constant one-on-one training. This is not a position where you will be sitting in a box, in the sky, drafting memos all day. We regularly meet clients in their offices. We make an effort to meet, face-to-face, with opposing counsel. This role provides a rare opportunity to join a new firm that is looking to grow fast while prioritizing an underserved or overcharged legal market.
The Clients. Small to medium sized businesses share significant overlap with consumer clients and large corporate clients, for both the better and for the worse. Like consumer clients, even relatively small legal matters are often high stakes and potentially life altering. And, like corporate clients, the costs of goods and services are typically priced higher, meaning they are charged more than what the same would be charged to consumers.
Philosophy. We look to be the value proposition over other business law firms by being both a one-stop shop for a client’s legal needs (not just litigation and not just business law) and pricing under the market average over other business litigation firms.
Requirements
Licensed to practice law in Texas. Attention to detail. Self starter. Ability to work as a team and work independently.
